ABSENT BORN LABS · REV 2026.08
I'm Asif. I'm self-taught, I live in New York, and Absent Born Labs is a one-person AI engineering lab that runs on hardware I own — an RTX 3070 Ti under a desk, not a rented cluster.
The short version of what I do: I build the AI systems a company would otherwise hire a team for. Custom agents, workflow automation, self-hosted LLM deployment. The long version is on the rest of this site, with numbers attached — the work is documented, the write-ups say what it cost, and The Floor shows what is actually running right now rather than a screenshot of it.
The reason everything here runs locally isn't ideology. It's that I wanted to know whether I could, and the only honest way to find out was to stop paying someone else to do the hard part.
So I trained a language model from scratch — my own architecture, my own tokenizer, my own weights — 29.9M parameters over 2.0B tokens in nine hours on that one consumer GPU. I served a 27B-parameter model on 8 GB of VRAM. I run a multi-agent platform behind one API with an egress boundary that classifies every outbound request and keeps what's private on the machine. None of that is a product yet. It's a lab, and I publish what it finds.
SIGNAL 01Where I post
ABL reads its own code and reports on it. What it finds — the ugly parts included — goes out as short clips first and longer write-ups after. Below is every account, including the ones that don't exist yet, marked as such so you don't go looking for them.
SIGNAL 02Reaching me
Work goes to email — it's the only channel I read properly, and it's the one where a scope can actually be written down.
